klezmer workshop fidl kapelye
This workshop mainly concentrates on Klezmer fidl playing but also on the role of other string instruments in the Klezmer band. Other instruments are welcome if they are interestet in this subject.
The specific techniques and characteristics of the traditional eastern European Jewish fidl style will be developed while learning several Klezmer tunes.
- specific fidl techniques such as krekhts, glissando, vibrato trill an their position in Klezmer tunes
- articulation, phrasing, ornamentation and variation of melodies
- skales und harmonic structures in Klezmer music
- different funktions of the fidl in the Klezmer ensemble:
- "ershte" (first) fidl
- "tsveyte" (second) fidl (besides first fidl or clarinet)
- contra playing: accompanyment with rhythmic chords
- basic accompanyment rhythms of the different genres
- in the case of participation of bass/cello players: playing and variation of bass lines
- traditional techniques of arrangement
